Eaton-Williams Moducel is proud to be associated with the project of the decade

Moducel, part of the Eaton-Williams group played a major role in the development of the Eden Project that has received the ultimate accolade by being named the ‘Project of the Decade’ at the Quality in Construction awards.

Eden ProjectModucel supplied no less than 33 air handling units for the world’s largest conservatory, which rates as one of its most unique high profile projects.

Moducel’s AHUs are sited externally and supply tempered fresh air to the massive biomes that provide an environment in which large, exotic plants can grow as naturally as possible and that allow for seasonal variations through close control of temperature and humidity.

Given the sheer volume of space, a forced air system was the most practical means of keeping temperatures up to the required levels.

Moducel's LKS air handlers inject air into the biomes via ductwork linked to stainless steel nozzles. Tempered and fresh air enters via nozzles around the perimeter, with fresh air only, injected at low level. The throw pattern on the lower nozzles is designed to enable the air to flow up the inside of the biome membrane, creating optimal air circulation.

The Moducel units perform a combination of fresh air supply and heating duties only and incorporate heater batteries, fans, silencers and filters together with moisture eliminators to deal with the high humidity levels. Low pressure hot water is supplied to the units by district heating lines from a central boiler plant.
