EWS provides nationwide air conditioning maintenance for bedside services
EWS is providing essential support for the communication and entertainment services delivered to hospital patients’ bedsides in hospitals across the UK by Patientline, an innovative provider of bedside services in the health care sector.
A stay in hospital is never an enjoyable experience but Patientline a market
leader in bedside communication has changed all that by delivering a comprehensive
range of state-of-the-art facilities direct to patients’ bedsides.
Through the provision of a wide range of services including electronic meal ordering for patients and access to patient records electronically which increases the effectiveness of clinical teams, Patientline helps reduce hospital staff workloads and improve patient care.
The nature of the service provided means that the network of bedside terminals needs to be available for use 24/7. A high turnover of patients combined with the demands placed on the systems requires constant monitoring and faults need to be flagged up and resolved swiftly.
At the heart of the system in each hospital is a communications room. The racking systems, UPS, servers and other peripheral devices generate high heat loads. Close control is a pre-requisite to prevent a denigration of the service and EWS’ remit is to ensure that air handling units are regularly maintained and deliver optimum performance levels.
As part of its remit, EWS has responsibility for the air handlers in all the comms rooms. When necessary it will provide an immediate response 24/7 in the event of equipment failure.
EWS also has responsibility for the air handlers in the administrative areas where the requirement is for year round comfort cooling. Here EWS provides a standard 24 hour response and offers portable units if the fault cannot be fixed.
With over 200 sites, the contract is nationwide and each site is fully supported through EWS’ network of mobile engineers. Maintenance visits take place regularly and EWS schedules its engineers to provide seamless continuous cover.
Like many companies with a high investment in plant, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) underpins Patientline’s maintenance requirements.
“If plant is well maintained on a regular basis, performance and reliability will significantly improve along with energy efficiency” cites John Wright, General Manager for EWS. “With margins being eroded and companies looking to optimise their investment EWS is seeing an increase in demand for PPM packages as companies realise the long term benefits.”
In addition to PPM, with a highly skilled network of mobile and residential engineering options, EWS can also advise on the feasibility of refurbishment and/or renewal of plant and provide a solution that best meets customers’ requirements.
